Ministries: West Hickory offers a variety of ministries for all age levels. Our focus is not on programs but on God, seeking to know Him and to make Him known. We seek to support local ministry efforts and world missions, while providing ministries in the church to strengthen our members in their walk with God.
Local Ministries: West Hickory partners with the Pregnancy Care Center, Safe Harbor Rescue Mission, and Catawba County Hospice. We also have the Share His Love Community Ministry, which provides staple food items and shares the Gospel with those in our community who have needs. Our Women on Mission and Baptist Men groups participate in local mission projects and service projects in our community as well. Global Ministries: West Hickory supports global missions through the Cooperative Program of the Southern Baptist Convention through our monthly budget and annually through the Lottie Moon Christmas offering. In addition, we are involved in supporting the Adopt a Village Program in Bihar, India. This program provides physical and spiritual needs to one of the neediest provinces in India. We are seeking God's leading into other avenues of outreach to the nations. Church Ministries: Our children's ministry provides solid Bible teaching and activities for children from preschool through 5th grade. On Sunday nights the children are led using materials from Desiring God ministries. On Wednesday nights, the children are involved in the missions ministries of RA's and GA's. On Sunday morning, children are have Sunday School using a curriculum called Generations of Grace. Children go to the Sunday morning worship service with their parents. We have children's church available for preschoolers but our hope is that older children will see their parents and other adult believers worshiping God in spirit and truth and will desire to join them in worship.
Our youth (grades 6-12) meet in small groups on Sunday night and have large group time on Wednesday night. Each summer, the youth go to camp and take a mission trip to a needy place in the U.S. The youth are also in the Sunday morning worship service. It is our goal to provide helpful teaching and activities for the youth while seeing them integrated into the church as a whole.
Adults at West Hickory can grow in faith through Biblically-based Sunday School classes, as well as opportunities for growth on Sunday and Wednesday nights. Sunday night discipleship features live teaching and video series which are geared toward deepening our walk with Christ. Recent Sunday night seminars include, The Holiness of God (R.C. Sproul), How to Study the Bible, The Prodigal God (Tim Keller), Fear of God and Fear of Man, The Blazing Center (John Piper) and Life as a Church. For the last several months, we have been studying the gospel of Mark verse-by-verse on Sunday nights. Wednesday nights begin with a Scripture reading and prayer, followed by a fellowship dinner. After dinner, we sing and pray and study Scripture together. Currently we are studying 2 Corinthians on Wednesday nights. We also have a Wednesday afternoon Bible study for those who do not like to drive at night. This group meets throughout the year but breaks for the months of June, July and December. Currently we are studying the book of Revelation on Wednesday afternoons. Throughout the year, men and women meet at various times for Bible studies and small groups that last from 6 to 12 weeks. The Triple L's (living longer and liking it) is a fellowship of friendship and ministry for Senior Adults. |
